Blog: Pegasus 38's Had Us Working Hard in the Sun

Firstly, I went with my group to the track field and we set our things down. I changed into different clothes for my role as the interviewer. Then, my group and I were discussing what section of the track field we would start filming on. I ended up suggesting filming in the shade. My group and I found a starting section of the track field for Alex and Jorge to go on. I suggested different angles that we can shoot from, as well as what scenes to shoot. Rashawn and I took turns filming the shots. At this point Rashawn and I had already filmed the beginning scenes. These consisted of the shots of the stretching, the Nike Pegasus 38 shoes, the split screen shot of Alex and Jorge's intense faces before the race begins, and the starting of the race between Alex and Jorge. I made sure that Alex was ahead of Jorge since it was the beginning of the race. Then my group and I went to the other side of the track field. We went there since it was sunny and a good, empty spot to film. We decided to get the last part of the commercial(the interview between me and Jorge) over with. Jorge and I came up with what to say for the interviewing section of the commercial. Rashawn filmed, and I interviewed Jorge on how he won the race. After we finished that scene, I told Alex and Jorge where to line themselves on the track field. I told Alex to be far behind Jorge, which gives the illusion that Jorge is winning the race. I suggested at what angles Rashawn should film with. Rashawn filmed the rest of the race, with Jorge quickly speeding up ahead of Alex with the Pegasus 38's. Then, we went to filmed the last scene. I went in the middle of Jorge and Alex's lines on the track field and I held my hands out for Jorge to clap first, since he won the race because of his shoes. Then, we gathered up our things and left the field.

Blog: Storyboard

Slide 1: A news broadcast starts and zooms into the track field. The racers, Jorge and Alex, are going to beat the 100-meter sprint world record. Both racers begin to stretch and prepare themselves for the race. Jorge and Alex give each other competitive gestures, both are mentally and physically prepared for this history changing event.

Slide 2: Both racers ready themselves, ready to pace through the wind. Alex, looking as smug as ever, knows he may have a chance of not only beating Jorge in the race, but also beat the world record. Jorge looks determined, he seems like nothing is going to stop him from being beat. The countdown slowly starts at 5.

Slide 3: The two contestants are shown giving each other a stare. It is supposed to give the audience a sense of tension and anticipation for the race. After that the contestants both get in their positions to take off and run. The scene will end with the countdown getting to 0, making them start.

Slide 4: The scene begins with them having just started running. You will see a back view of them taking off before a shift to the sidelines showing a side view of them running. This section is supposed to have Jorge seeming to be struggling. Alex will slightly overtake him to create a sense of the dire situation to the audience.

Slide 5: After Alex overtakes Jorge a few seconds later. Jorge will start to speed up and there will be a cut to his to show the product so the audience can deduce why Jorge is getting faster. The music will get faster or hit a beat drop as Jorge speeds up. Jorge’s shoes will then start to leave a flame trail as he speeds past Alex right before the finish line. Leading Jorge to take first place and do a small celebration.

Slide 6: Hadar will then interview the winner (Jorge). First, she will congratulate Jorge on the win. Then Hadar will ask Jorge how he made the comeback from being behind Alex. Then Jorge will say something along the lines of, “Well it was all because of my Nike shoes, the Pegasus 38’s running shoes. Which makes me feel as fast as a pegasus.”

Blog: Research

We decided to do a commercial for NIKE. Specifically we decided on the Air zoom Pegasus 38 shoes(Mainly because Jorge has a pair). Most NIKE ads show people participating in some form of physical activity like running or playing soccer, really anything they would wear shoes for.

  • In all the ads we watched the actors wore sporty clothing to further emphasize the activity that this is equipment meant for sport.

  • The actors often appear sweaty and out of breath. Oftentimes their skin is glistening, further emphasising their participation in the activities.

  • Oftentimes there are fast paced up-beat songs used to convey excitement and energy. It is meant to motivate.

  • The props usually vary between the ads as the actions taking place often vary greatly. Sometimes there might be a  NIKE brand ball or NIKE Clothing, the list goes on and on.

Conventions and Codes: Through the ads the one major thing that remains consistent is the inclusion of the famous NIKE phrase: “Just do it.” The main reason behind the quote is to act as a final motivator to the audience before the ad ends. By using “just do it” in the commercial, it will make the commercial inspirational and inspire people to buy the Nike shoes.

Another thing we found consistent among NIKE ads was that they always tried to make the logo the center of attention. This is usually attempting to further showcase the products.

The last thing we noticed is that the ads usually use famous figures to symbolize that people with high status use Nike products.

Blog: My Group

The people in my group are Alexandros Rapanos, Jorge Lopez, and Rashawn Granderson. Everyone in the group except Rashawn are sophomores in high school, and Rashawn is a junior in high school. I met Alexandros(Alex) on the school bus through a friend. We sat near each other once and since then have been friends. Jorge, I already knew from my freshman year, but only became friends with him once I started to hang out with Alex. Alex, Jorge, and I all enjoy playing video games together and we have hung out before as well. I know Rashawn from class, and we have only talked once. Everyone in the group enjoys Anime, which according to Google is "a style of Japanese film and television animation". Alex, Jorge, and I also enjoy playing sports together. We enjoy playing will soccer balls, volleyballs, and frisbees together. We are still not extremely close, but as time goes on we will likely become better friends. Since I just met Rashawn, I don't really know too much of his interests. However, I'm sure that as the year progresses we will get to know each other more. Ever since Alex, Jorge, and I all switched into the class together at the same time we spend our class period with each other. I chose to work with Jorge and Alex because I already know them and they are my friends, and Rashawn asked to join the group so he will now work with us as well. I know that Alex and Jorge are hard workers and I am sure that we will work together well as a group. Since I know that Alex and Jorge would be easily accessible after school in case we need to do groupwork after school, having them as partners is also advantageous. Similarly, I have their contacts on my phone so if we need to work together it would not be a struggle. Other than practicality, I enjoy spending time with my groupmates and consider it fun, so working together, even for schoolwork, is not a burden. I am sure that my groupmates and I will work well together and receive a good grade.

Blog: Introduction

My name is Hadar Kotzer. I am 15 years old and a sophomore in high school. I was born on August 3rd, 2006. School-wise, I always strive to get at least a B and try my best to get an A. My grades for the past years are mostly A's and B's, and my testing grades are high as well. Interest-wise, I enjoy playing video games, watching movies, watching shows, hanging out with friends, and being with my family.

My favorite video is Rainbow Six Siege, and I also enjoy Splitgate, Roblox, and Fortnite, which are all gun games. My favorite movie is Toy Story because of its awesome storyline, characters, and animation. All those factors really make the movie enjoyable, especially the choice of characters and how they act in the movie. My favorite shows are all on Netflix and include All American, On My Block, Stranger Things, and Atypical. All these shows are generally focused towards the teenage audience so, naturally as a teenager, they attracted my interest.

Hanging out with my friends is the second best thing that I enjoy doing. My favorite thing to do with friends is to go swim and to play games together. Because of quarantine, I was not able to spend time with my friends too much. But now, since school is in-person I have much more opportunities to see my friends.

However, out of everything that I enjoy, my favorite thing to do is spend time with my family. My brother and I have a close bond, and even though he is 5 years younger than me, we still get along quite well. My mother and father are usually busy, but when we all go out as a family we all have a blast. My grandmother flies overseas usually every few years, but my grandmother came 2 times in one year, which has made my family and I very happy. She has been here for 2 weeks so far, and though she must leave soon, her coming here is truly a highlight in my life.

Overall, I am really excited for my first full in-person year of high school, and so far the year is going great, ranging from fun experiences with family and friends to playing video games on my spare time.
